By the time you get this newspaper, Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton will be wrapping up its annual Snow Week with a pep fest, with students all dressed in white and enjoying an afternoon of festivities.

The week of Snow Week activities began with the coronation and crowning of the snow king and queen on Monday, January 12. This year’s queen was Ellie Morsching, with Daulton Bauer receiving the king’s crown.

This year’s court included Queen Morsching and her fellow candidates, Aubrey Adams, Grace Groh, Kwynn Krause, and Jenna Aasen. The king candidates included King Bauer, Rylan Rolfson, Chase Gerdts, Travyn Shoultz, and Zander Terbeest. The crown bearers were Reece Sonnek and Cam Luedtke.

In addition to crowning a snow king and queen, the candidates also had a friendly snow angel contest, although a few of them joked that there wasn’t much snow on the ground to make their angels. Photos of each candidate’s snow angel were sent to students for voting. Travyn Shoultz’s snow angel was voted best out of all the king candidates, while Aubrey Adams had the best one out of the queens. Each received a sash and what looked like a cool trophy for their efforts.

A new addition to Snow Week, the Snow Week court made snow angels, and students voted on the best ones. Travyn Shoultz and Aubrey Adams were named Mr. and Mrs. Snow Angel.

This year’s snow week coronation was emceed by Rachelle Oelke and Tyson Johnson, with Katie Olson and Mikayla Wheelock assisting with handing out crowns and sashes.

There was not much else to this year’s coronation. It was kept mostly short and sweet, with captains of each winter sports team and a few other groups sharing updates on their seasons. Bauer was excited to share that the team was undefeated and ranked in the top five in Class A. The girls shared that, although they had an 8-6 record, they were ready to get back on track after going through a tougher schedule than in previous years. And while wrestling captains Charles Adams and Kayle Langford were excited about the Grizzlies’ season thus far, they asked for a moment of silence for 7th-grade wrestler Brady Kessler; Kessler passed away over the weekend.

After the moment of silence, the speech captains shared that they had only begun their first week of practice but were preparing for their first meet at Mankato Loyola in February. Senior Allie Hanks was especially happy to share that thanks to a potential for online speech meets, there may be more opportunities for the JWP speech team to send more of its members to the state tournament. The FCCLA, FFA, and swing show also shared some brief information. Swing show members were especially ecstatic to start practices.

With the dress-up days, students got to laze and lounge on Monday, January 12, because it was PJ day. Tuesday, January 13, will be Twin Day; high schoolers had to find someone to be their twin, while elementary students wore Minnesota Twins gear. Wednesday is Monochromatic Day (dressing up in one color), with Thursday as Beach Day. In the spirit of Snow Week, Friday will be White Out Day.

With activities like lunchtime bingo, karaoke, and several other festivities during the pep fest, JWP is sure to have a fun snow week.
